Psychological intervention allows us to respond to the problems and issues of mental health, as well as well-being and personal development. The intervention always occurs following a assessment understanding.

Some relevant examples of indications for assessment and intervention:

  • Rigid and persistent operating patterns, deep trauma, somatization, Borderline conditions, personality disorders, dependencies (emotional, substance, …),
  • Psychological and affective changes, such as depression and anxiety, insomnia, panic attack, eating disorders (e.g. anorexia),  trauma, insecurity, obsessive thoughts and behaviors, feelings of emptyness, etc.
  • Maladaptive relational patterns (e.g. isolation, aggression, passivity). Personal, family, and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Crises and life transitions (adolescence, adulthood, aging, mourning, divorce, professional crises, identity crises, …).
  • Developmental disorders – autism, hyperactivity and attention deficit, learning difficulties, behavioral disorders, developmental delay or deficit, elimination disorders (enuresis and encopresis), etc.

Psychotherapy

It's a specific treatment method which aims at a solid and consistent resolution of issues and problems, starting from an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of personal functioning. This understanding seeks an understanding of the foundations of these same dynamics and of personality, as well as their relationship with the life history in which they were structured.

It is based on the exploration, reflection and interpretation of the internal and interpersonal functioning processes, the affective dynamics and the construction of meanings of the subject. The deepening of the self knowledge provides a greater awareness of oneself, one's patterns and one's emotions. It is from this awareness that each one can build the changes desired in a harmonious and coherent way with oneself, developing greater flexibility and calming adaptability, as well as the ability to make decisions and take responsibility.

Psychotherapy has a variety of applications depending on the needs, singularities and dynamics of each person's functioning. It is carried out according to a consolidated technical-scientific framework, which is why it requires rigorous processes specialization, training and certification, as well as the mastery and constant updating of specific and complex knowledge.

COUPLES OR FAMILY THERAPY

Often, couples/families seek help when they face recurring difficulties, impasses, emotional distance and/or incompatibilities, as well as blocks in intimacy and/or sexuality.

In therapeutic support, each member is heard, and together we explore ways to understand the dynamics underlying the difficulties experienced in the relationship, as well as how to restore dialogue, strengthen trust, and regain balance in the relationship. It is important that both parties are willing to participate in the process and agree to it.

The focus is not on changing each ones personality but rather on resolving conflicts, improving communication, and developing ways to deal with differences and incompatibilities between the elements. The focus is also on promoting negotiation skills, aiming to achieve compromise solutions. These solutions generally involve mutual concessions and simultaneously, that they are satisfactory to everyone, in which both feel respected.

Sometimes, these compromise solutions involves regulating one's ability to set limits on others (whether due to difficulties in assertively communicating personal boundaries or due to rigidity and high demands in establishing them). They can also involve developing and deepening mutual (and self) knowledge and the ability to understand the other one, his needs, his history and his vulnerabilities.

Ultimately, the focus is on promoting satisfying, healthy, and dynamic relationships that don't become crystallized in rigid patterns, and are capable of overcoming impasses constructively and based on mutual respect..

Couple/family therapy sessions are longer (approximately two hours) than individual sessions, and therefore more expensive. On the other hand, they are brief therapies (usually a few sessions), compared to individual psychotherapies which tend to be lengthy.
